Rederi AB Göta Kanal's three classic canal ships navigate one of the world's most beautiful and breathtaking waterways - Göta Canal, which connects Gothenburg with Stockholm through over 60 locks. We offer exclusive cruises with full board and guided excursions. We are looking for genuine, dedicated, and reliable employees who want to contribute to the enchanting atmosphere on board and provide our guests with memories for life.
As these are old boats, the headroom in several places on board is limited to 185 cm.
You have:
- Minimum qualification of Ship's Officer Class VII, Inland Waters
- Minimum Engine Officer Class VIII
- Basic Safety according to STCW Manila
- Radio qualification ROC or SRC
- Medical certificate for seafarers
- Documented experience in passenger traffic, maneuvering, and navigation in archipelagos and narrow fairways and harbors
- Advanced firefighting
We are looking for someone who:

- Feels confident in your work role and professional competence
- Is calm and composed. Even under stress, you can provide guests with a professional and friendly reception
- Is stress-resistant
- Sees an advantage in working intensively for a period and then being off for a period, we apply a 1:1 system
- Has experience in locking and canal navigation with bank effect
It is important that you have good knowledge of Swedish, which is the safety language on board, as well as English since most of our guests visit us from abroad. German and other language skills are advantageous.
As a mate on our passenger ships, in addition to safely operating and maneuvering the vessel, you will also lead the crew and actively work according to the company's safety manuals. We expect you to have an interest and competence in technology, safety, and nautical matters, as the officer is responsible for ensuring the vessel is seaworthy. Organizing and leading ongoing safety drills with the crew in an engaged manner is of utmost importance, as well as possessing high social competence.
We also see that you have:
- Worked on different types of vessels in varied sailing areas
- Experience in locking
- A passion for boating and Göta Canal
- Good knowledge of operating vessels with single installations and without bow thrusters
We offer:
- Seasonal employment from May/June to September 2026
- 1:1 rotation work/off periods
- Tariff salary according to SBF collective agreement
